Homework #1 :
Complete the Online Self-Assesment for Chapters 1-3, Do and hand-in multiple choice review for chapters 2 and 3. Do and hand-in these problems: Ch. 2: 32, 34, 38; Ch. 3: 32, 36, 38, 39.
Homework #2:
Complete the Online Self-Assesment for Chapters 4-6, Do and hand-in these problems: Ch. 4 -34, 35, 37, 41; Ch. 5 - 34, 37, 41; Ch. 6 - 31, 38. Also compute the mass of CO2 emitted per MegaJoule (kg/MJ) for these fuels: 1) methane, 2) kerosene, 3) bituminous coal. Use a chemical formula C12
H26 for kerosene and C20H22O for bituminous coal.

Complete the Online Self-Assesment for Chapters 7-9, Do and hand-in these problems: Ch. 7 - 34, 36, 40; Ch. 8 - 31, 34, 39; Ch. 9 - 31, 34, 36, 40. Also for problem 9.34, calculate the 1st law efficiency for the heat pump having the cooling efficiency of 16.4 Btu/Wh.

Complete the online self-assessment for chapters 10 and 11. Do problems 16, 32, and 34 from Chapter 10 and 17, 24, 27, and 31 from Chapter 11. Also, propose a renewable energy/energy conservation program that could deliver sufficient energy or energy savings to eliminate the need for the Cliffside coal plant proposed by Duke Energy. Estimate the costs for your proposed program over a 30-year lifetime and compare that with the costs of the power delivered by the coal-fired plant. Estimate the savings in CO2 emissions with your proposal over a 30-year lifetime.
