Funding We are grateful for our second year of funding from The Burroughs Wellcome Fund for Education Enhancement.
Activities in Brief:
We will learn how to use bioinformatics tools to find patterns in DNA sequence, particularly using DNA as a bar code
to identify individuals and group them in populations sharing characters of interest. We will also learn to design reagents that let you pull focus on
a particular region of DNA to study, that can become a new bar code sequence, or can be used to study the function of that region in biology experiments.
We are going to create reagents that will be used to pull out the American Chestnut chloroplast genome so that we can sequence it during
the summer B3 camp.
Activity Summary:By the end of the 3 days students will be able to log into the DNA Subway site, select the bioinformatics pipeline that best suits the outcome they want,
design reagents to create a new DNA bar code sequence, upload files into the pipeline and run it, and interpret the results.
