Because we lost two lectures, we are FAR behind on the first assignment. I am going to have you write a practice review and two “live” reviews of two technical papers. The “live” reviews are for the SoutheastCon 2011 conference. Their deadline for uploading the review is 1/21/2011, so we have a lot of work to do before then.

Please do the following for the first assignment:

• Go to the notes page and view the two presentations at the top of the page. These are VERY large files (2 GB and 1 GB), so you will want to view these on a MOSAIC computer on campus. You MUST view them with the VLC Viewer application; no other video viewer will work. Also note there is a pdf file there-print it out and use it to follow along. There is also a file attached to this email. Print it out as well.
• Read the paper (submitted to SoutheastCon 2010) and write a practice review for it. This review is due Monday, 1/17/2010, 3:30 pm on Moodle. NOTE: The university is closed for a Holiday on Monday, 1/17/11. I still would like the review done by then.
• On Monday I will send out a copy of the reviews from the people who reviewed this paper for SoutheastCon 2010, so you can see how researchers responded to the paper. I will also send out the final paper so you can see how the authors modified the paper due to reviewer comments. We will discuss this on Wednesday.
• I have sent out two papers to most of the class participants to review. These two reviews are due Wednesday 1/19/2011 by class time on Moodle. We will discuss reviews in general on Wednesday. You will then have about one day to modify your review for your assignment grade (and submit via Moodle).
