Week of Monday, August 9, 2010
  • The Final Exam is on 8/11 in Woodward 140, 3:00 to 5:30pm.  I'll go over the material expected in the 8/9 class.
  • Read Chapter 7 in the book.  Expect Quiz 9 - will be on Chapter 7 material.  Quiz 10 will be a take-home quiz.
  • All assignments have been graded and will be returned Monday, 8/9.  The scores for all assignments are posted (11pm on 8/7).  The weight for the course assignments have changed slightly since I did not assign homework and there were only 10 quizzes given. the new weights are:
    • Labs: 35%  (Lab 1=5%, Lab 2=5%, Lab 3=10%, Lab 4=15%)
    • Quizzes: 10%, 1% each, none dropped
    • Exams: 55%, Exam 1=15%, Exam 2=15%, Final=25%)

  • Exam 1 is June 23.  Topics to cover:
    1. Organization of a robotic System.
    2. Specification of requirements for a robotic system (i.e. If I want a robot to travel and avoid a wall, what sensors should be included in the robot design?)
    3. Physical operation of motor movement compared to gearing compared to wheel movement (i.e. distance travelled)
    4. Nexys 2 and FPGA design of robotics.
    The video recordings are now available on Moodle. I recommend you look at an old test (http://www.coe.uncc.edu/~jmconrad/ECGR4161-2009-01/quiz/ECGR4161-2009-01-exam1-sol.pdf ) to see what kind of “design” questions I ask.

  • Welcome to ECE 4161/5196!  The first day of class is Monday, May 24, 2010.
  • The book, Autonomous Robots by George Bekey will be used in this class.  Obtain a copy from the bookstore or purchase it online.
  • This class will be based heavily on the web pages.  For example:
    • Please take the time to read the class syllabus.
    • All class notes are available here.  You can download them and print them at your leisure.
    • Homework assignments will be posted here and not distributed in class.
    • Quiz solutions will be posted on the Quiz page.
    • Check out the special hints and helps at the bottom of the home page!
    • There will be many lab assignments to practice the concepts learned in class. 
  • There is no class on Monday, May 31 (holiday)
  • The book chapter 1 and other readings are available online in the notes page.  Read these for the 5/24/10 class!
