Call for Papers

The 22nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts (SLSA) will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 13-16, 2008.

We welcome papers and panels on all topics of interest to SLSA members. This year, we also invite papers that touch on the theme of "Reiteration." The term, often associated with, but certainly not limited to, chaos theory, was chosen to resonate with ideas and concepts in technology, engineering, biology, medicine, epidemiology, and the history of scientific thought. The iterative process, so much at the heart of scientific modes of analysis, has also become a part of our understanding--whether literally or metaphorically--of physical, natural, historical, literary, and philosophical interpretations of how we believe the world around us operates. It is critical for us to examine that approach and consider it carefully, if not reiteratively, as students of intellectual inquiry.

The conference is sponsored, in part, by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte ,the most rapidly growing campus in the University of North Carolina system.

Charlotte is a city of approximately 1.5 million and is the 2nd largest banking center in the nation. It is home to the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, the Levine Center for the New South, Discovery Place Science Museum, and a variety of professional sports franchises, including the Carolina Panthers and Bobcats.

In addition to “general” panels, please encourage your undergraduates to consider submitting papers for a set of undergraduate sessions.

Longtime SLSA members are encouraged to volunteer to be “ Conference Facilitators ,” which simply means that they will take the initiative to welcome conference newcomers and introduce them into the SLSA Community in general.

Please send session and paper proposals, by July 15, 2008, to:
