  • Grad students, the next Project Report is due April 5.  I suggest you do work now and not at the last minute.  You must show proof of progress in your report.

  • Grad students - check out this file for project ideas.  The proposal is due March 2.
  • I have not had time to record Lecture 11.5 - it was intended to be a supplement to help with homework, but Fall 2011 students completed their homework assignment fine with out it.  I'll try to get to it next week.

Week of Monday, February 6, 2012
  • Mike McLain will not be available this week due to a death in the family.  He will try to upload grades for the assignments (an homework solutions).
  • Remember, there is a test Friday, 5:00 pm (2/10) in Woodward 140.  You are allowed any book, notes, calculator (change from earlier), pens, paper.  You are NOT allowed to use a computer, cell phone, PDA, or friend.  The test covers everything done so far (Lab 1, Homeworks 1-4, lectures 1-10).

Week of Monday, January 30, 2012
  • No new announcements.

Week of Monday, January 23, 2012
  •  Grad students - check out this file for project ideas.

Week of Monday, January 16, 2012
  • Remember, we will not meet during the scheduled class time, except for the exams (2/10, 3/23, 5/4).
  • Make sure to view the discussions of labs in the class Moodle site.  Make sure you ask questions on the Moodle site instead of emails directly to the instructor and TA.
  • Two changes for office hours: I need to change my office hours from Tue/Thur 2-4pm to Tue 2-4 and Wed 2-3:30 (my department chair wants me in a Thurs afternoon meeting). The change is effective immediately. I am still available when my door is open, which is a lot of time each week. Also, I erroneously typed the wrong office hours for Mike McLain (and told in class). On Fridays, he starts at 10am, not 9am like I announced. I'll fix all of the appropriate webpages and syllabus.

Week of Monday, January 9, 2012
  • Welcome to ECE 4101/5101!  The first week of class starts Monday, January 9, 2012.  You can now get a head start by viewing the class lectures from the notes page.
  • Homework Assignment 1 is Due Friday, January 13, 2010 at 6:15 pm.
  • Please take the time to read the class syllabus.
  • We WILL meet on Friday, January 13, 5:00 pm for about an hour.
  • The lab assignments will use the Renesas RX62N Evaluation Board.  Each student can purchase one if they wish.  Visit www.renesas.com or other on-line sites to purchase one (about $100).
  • This course uses video of lectures recorded during the Fall 2011 semester. You will be expected to view the lectures before completing homework and lab assignments, so make sure you keep up with them. The professor uses transparencies and the document camera to teach this class.
  • The course book is Embedded Systems:  An Introduction using the Renesas RX62N Microcontroller by James M. Conrad and Alexander G. Dean, Micrium Press, 2011.  A FREE copy (pdf) is in the Moodle site.  You can buy a hardcopy for $49.95 all over the place.  Note:  Tests are open book, open notes, but you cannot use a pdf on a PC during a test.
  • The lectures are on YouTube in high-definition, so make sure to choose the better resolution option (and perhaps make it full screen) for the best viewing experience.
