I've found a bug in the TrussAnalyzer.xls file that's on the contest web page (thanks Logan). The bug can give a bridge strength that's too low if you have multiple sheets with the named range "SafFctr." This can happen if you have copied your sheet from another workbook. I've fixed the bug and reposted the TrussAnalyzer.xls file. The new file has a date and time of 4/23/08, 4:06 PM.

Remember you can also use the Matlab script "truss_strength" to determine your strength (remember, bridge strength = 2 * truss_strength).

A spreadsheet that can be used to analyze truss designs for the bridge contest is now available (download TrussAnalyzer.xls). Be sure to enable enable macros when you open this file. A macro called jbtruss (Ctr-j) does the bridge contest analysis using a number of functions and procedures written in VBA. Two sample trusses are provided. Let me know if you have problems with this spreadsheet.
