The Department of English at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte offers a Concentration in Children's Literature within its M.A. in English. The philosophy of the department is that Children's Literature is not only an integral part of many literary traditions, it is a critical element in our understanding of the social, theoretical, and cultural traditions in literature as a whole. The Concentration thus allows students to focus on the development and range of literature for children, while also taking courses in other fields of interest, such as linguistics, rhetoric, writing, and other literary genres.
The program draws on a distinguished faculty in the area of Children's Literature, who have published widely in the area and who serve on significant journals in the field. The outstanding collection of over 10,000 rare and significant children's books in the J. Murrey Atkins Library complements the interests and the research of students and faculty alike.
