| WHAT THIS COURSE IS ABOUT: English 2100 is a course that is meant to ground you in the practices of reading and understanding texts, as well as being able to write about them coherently. The course is designed to give you an opportunity to hone your analytical skills in a way that suggests why it is so compelling (and enjoyable) to study English! In this section, the idea of text has been expanded to include the "texts of culture." While we will be drawing on strictly literary texts, such as Frankenstein, Wordsworth and Coleridge's Lyrical Ballads, and the poetry of Robert Browning, we will also be looking at broader cultural "texts" including the music/lyrics of Bruce Springsteen, the popular magazine, National Geographic, the Walkman (iPod), and other forms of representation that have cultural significance. |
