Introduction to Web-Based Information Systems

The overall objective of this course is to introduce basic terminology and concepts related to information systems implemented via the World Wide Web.  We will review the history of the Internet and the World Wide Web and the basic technological infrastructure that supports the Internet.  You will create and post Web pages using basic HTML and a Web authoring tool such as DreamWeaver.  We will also explore ethical issues related to Web-based information systems including the impact of such systems on our everyday lives.  Privacy considerations and maintaining information security while using the Web as well as using the Web to search for information and identify good, valid sources will be discussed.  In addition, we will investigate RSS feeds, blogging, and Wikis.
