Internship: General Curriculum

Course Overview

The UNC Charlotte internship course is the culminating experience in the special education teacher preparation program. It provides the opportunity for the intern to demonstrate the competencies, knowledge, attitudes, and understandings learned in courses taken prior to internship. It includes supervised, field-based experiences in observation, instruction and administration of programs for students who have special needs. The internship for initial licensure requires a 15‑week, full‑time internship semester.  For those who are currently teaching in special education, the internship placement requirements can be met in their own classrooms. 

Pre-requisites:

  • Completion of the required 24 hours of licensure courses

  • Completion of 15 out of 18 eportfolio entries

  • Completion of application for the Office of Field Experience

  • Approval from your advisor

Technology: Centra-based classes

Course requirements include observations by a university supervisor, observations from your school-based supervisor, observation and interview of a licensed special education teacher, self-reflections, implementation of an assessment project which includes an instructional unit, attendance of an orientation meeting on campus and Centra-based classes during the semester.
