Introduction to Special Education

Course Overview

This graduate course addresses disability and giftedness within the context of society, history, and daily life. It provides a foundation in special education through examination of the historical background of contemporary practices in the field of special education and current trends in the field of special education. Legal issues, considerations of diversity, and characteristics of disabilities and giftedness are also addressed. In addition, we will investigate the impact of disability and giftedness in areas such as media and sports. This course incorporates Blackboard and Centra to deliver instruction, and serves as one of the prerequisites of our program.
