Recreation

I spend a fairly large amount of time outside in the average year.  Like most field based geologists I feel like I spend all of my work time outside and then I return to the mountains for recreation.  Over time I'll try to include more of the things that I enjoy doing but first and foremost I must include my true love, skiing.

Me making beautiful tracks of the backside of Pebble Creek Ski Area in March 2005.  World class backcountry skiing with minimal avalanche hazard.

Early season (before the lifts open) hiking to the top of Pebble Creek.

The top of Pebble Creek before the lifts opened in 2005.  That is me on the left and the little knob in the background between us is the Tetons a couple hundred miles away.  I prefer to remember this day as seen in the picture and not the extreme avalanche hazard that we encountered on the way down.
Me doing some jumping in the trees on the backside of Pebble Creek.  The jumping was clean but the depth of snow made good landings difficult.
The same jump as above from a different angle.  Milana realized in the air that the gap between the trees was smaller than it appeared.

I'm trying to get back to playing on a regular basis again but I  played a lot of ultimate in college and shortly thereafter.  The Charlotte Ultimate scene seems to be promising and I've started a least playing pickup again.  Here is a picture from my Hope College ultimate days.
